About
Table Decoration Ideas is a free, informational resource about styling tables at home. The guides look at everyday tables, dinners with friends and celebrations and explain, in plain language, how to make a table look considered and welcoming with a few well-chosen pieces.
What the site covers
- Table decoration ideas: where to begin, how to choose a color palette, giving the table a focal point and a calm minimal look.
- Centerpieces: flowers in a vase, greenery, decorative bowls and groupings of flameless candles.
- Place settings: the basic layout, napkin presentation, placemats and small touches for every seat.
- Everyday tables: casual weeknight tables, small tables, sit-down dinners at home and decor that can stay out between meals.
- Party, seasonal and holiday tables: birthday and buffet tables, ideas for spring, summer, fall and winter, and festive tables for Thanksgiving and the winter holidays.
- Styling tips: runners, layered textures and decorating round and long tables.
If you are new here, begin with Table Decorating for Beginners, then read about choosing a table color palette, simple centerpiece ideas and the basic place setting. Every guide is listed on the Tutorials page.
How the guides are written
Each guide covers one part of the table or one occasion from start to finish. The ideas are original and are written to be adapted: tables differ in shape, size and surface, so a guide explains the reasoning behind a suggestion and not only the suggestion itself.
- Measurements are starting points. Runner overhangs, centerpiece heights and the space allowed for each seat are given in inches as a place to begin. Check them against your own table, chairs and dishes before you commit to anything.
- Products are described by type, not by brand. There are no sponsored product claims, no paid placements and no invented reviews, ratings or testimonials.
- The illustrations are original. The pictures are illustrations drawn for each guide. They are diagrams of an idea, not photographs of a real table, and they are there to show placement, proportion and color.
- Time and difficulty are estimates. Where a guide has an “At a glance” card, the time, difficulty, table type and list of what you need are approximate and depend on your table and what you already own.
What the site does not do
Table Decoration Ideas shares general decorating information. It is about how a table looks, not about what is served on it, and it cannot assess your particular table, home or event.
- Decor only. The site does not publish dishes or menus, and it gives no advice on preparing, storing or handling food.
- Decorative pieces and food. The guides make no claim that a decorative bowl, tray, vase, flower, leaf or other piece is suitable for contact with food. Follow the maker’s statement for each item, and keep decoration and food apart when you are not sure.
- Candles. Flameless LED candles are the default in every guide, including the guide to candle centerpieces. If you choose real candles, take the usual precautions: a sturdy holder, well away from anything that can burn, and never left unattended.
- Events and etiquette. The site does not plan events and does not set rules of etiquette. Where a guide describes a conventional layout, it is offered as a common starting point, not as the only correct way.
